Starting Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer

When you first enter the ME3 Multiplayer, you get the following screen.

I read the hints written on the computer terminal on the right. All of the hints refer to the single player game but many also apply to the multiplayer version. Once the multiplayer game has loaded, a version of the following screen appears.

The character shown is my Krogan Shaman.  A beginning player will probably have the Human Male Adept shown.  A later post will cover this screen. The top two items on the menu in the center of the screen are used to enter an existing game lobby ("Quick Match") or to create a game lobby of your own (not recommended for very new players as you do not necessarily know the various maps nor the difficulty levels of the enemy or gameplay).

If you select Quick Match, you will get the following screen.  This screen will be covered in the next post.

BTW, there is a series of videos designed for new players on YouTube created by Invaderone.  He has called them the Noob series.  His explanations are incredibly helpful so please check these out!  he is also constantly doing new videos so you will want to subscribe.

Hooked by a Krogan Vanguard

It is ingrained permanently in my mind.  Dagger and Cerberus as the enemy (Bronze of course as we were Noobs).  All except a Krogan Vanguard was dead in the upper extraction area as there had been a hack in this location.  We were pumping our A buttons but of course the Krogan had to first get the Atlas charging at the mostly dead group. I could hear the "binging" of "oh no - not out of ammo and clips!" We watched as the Krogan had to decide whether to try to revive someone and/or get ammo. Then we watched his decision as he rammed into the Atlas!  Brilliant! And I knew I was playing a very different type of game; a very exciting new type of game for me.  I was hooked.

Multiplayer Here We Come...

One night my husband and I were trying to figure out what to do.  We had begun to play board games in the evenings but we wanted a break from them.  We considered replaying Portal 2 Cooperative but...we had finished it only a few months earlier. Our son had raved about Mass Effect 3 so we decided to give it a try. Wow.  What can  I say? The emotional power of the game is incredible.  We then went out and also purchased the trilogy, giving us two copies of Mass Effect 3 and two copies of the Multiplayer game enrollment code.  We played Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and then replayed Mass Effect 3.

Hankering for more (and missing Thane), I then discovered that there were DLC pieces for both ME2 and ME3. It was at this point that we finally created an online account.  While looking through the online content, I noticed Multiplayer DLC.  They were free...so why not?

Our lives then changed.

How It All Started

Mass Effect was originally a Christmas present for my son.  I would periodically come into the room when he was playing it and I noticed that he had to make choices in conversations. "Interesting", I thought.

Some time later, I purchased Mass Effect 2 for him.  I remember coming into the family room when he was scanning planets and thinking "Why would anyone do such a boring activity...repeatedly?"

When Mass Effect 3 came out, my son was old enough to purchase it on his own.  He had an XBox 360 in his room and I did not enter and watch him play.  However, I would hear him talking and discovered he was talking to friends online while playing Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer.

The beginning could have stopped there but...
